Employee Spotlight: Laura Strudwick, Executive Assistant

We have some impressive employees in our ranks: from basketball players to marathon runners, from gamers to authors. The Employee Spotlight series aims to highlight the talented individuals who work here.

For this month’s Employee Spotlight, we’re featuring Laura Strudwick, Executive Assistant and Office Manager here at CYBRID.

What do you do at CYBRID?

Executive Assistant to the CEO with additional executive support to the Directorates and IT Engineers, as well as Office Manager.

What are your credentials/past experience, for working in your position?

My previous role was working in the Business Travel sector. This prepared me to work under pressure, adhere to strict deadlines and obtain a high level of customer service skills. These have all been transferable to my current role, working in a high paced environment delivering a high level of support.

What’s the best thing about your job?

I am a highly organised individual and it is rewarding to know I am instrumental in supporting the team so that they can be effective in their roles. My job is challenging and varied and no day is ever the same.

What’s been your proudest moment at CYBRID?

I have recently taken on some of the finance projects. It has taken some time to understand and work through some of the issues as this is a new skill for me. I have been with the CYBRID a short amount of time so I am looking forward to getting involved in some bigger projects that I can make a difference to and be proud of my work.

What’s it like working at CYBRID during the current pandemic? Has the way you work changed at all?

Working in technology is a huge bonus, as we have managed to work from home seamlessly. It has been challenging at times, you cannot replace face to face contact and have missed working in a busy office environment.

Before working at CYBRID, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

A family friend runs a Photographic Agency specialising in Celebrity and Royal pictures. I helped out when I was in college. One of the photographers worked for ITV and I was l lucky enough to go to a recording of the tv show SM:tv where I met Ant and Dec.

What’s something new you’ve learned in the past week? ……

You learn something new everyday working in IT! Recently a potential customer made us aware that their systems have been held ransom by hackers! Found this so interesting and scary how they did this.

What are your top three books/podcasts?

Normally when I am travelling and have the time to relax and enjoy a good book. My favourite books have been..

Good Life by Vex King

Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough

Ted Talks

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

When I am not working, I love going out and spending time with my friends. I have recently got a puppy, so she now takes up most of my free time. I enjoy taking her out for long walks and exploring new places. Looking forward to when gym classes are open again!
